The Silver Screen Sports Film Festival has been revamped to a single-day celebration of two iconic sports movies – Slap Shot and Rocky – on Saturday, April 14th at Westchester’s Tarrytown Music Hall (13 Main Street, Tarrytown, NY 10591). Both classics will be followed by a special Question & Answer session following the screening.
Slap Shot’s The Hanson Brothers and Burt Young, who portrayed Rocky’s beloved Paulie character, will be featured following the screenings at 12:15 pm and 7:45 pm, respectively. Tickets are priced starting at $30, and limited VIP session tickets with the artists which consist of photo-opportunities, autographs and light food and drinks are also available.
Previously scheduled screenings of three additional classics – Major League (Corbin Bernsen), Caddyshack (Michael O’Keefe/Cindy Morgan) and Rudy (Rudy Ruettiger) – have been postponed until later dates this year which are to be determined.

Westchester’s intense passion for sports and immense pride in the community has sparked Jobu Media Group, which will present the film festival, to utilize the platform to fundraise for an important cause. With that in mind, it was a natural fit to utilize the platform to fundraise for an important local cause. In Westchester County, 200,000 people are at risk of hunger or facing food insecurity, and 33 percent of those at risk are children, and 50 percent are senior citizens. The Food Bank for Westchester is the primary provider of food to soup kitchens and food pantries in the county. They partner with these outlets to get food directly to people who are hungry and serve over 300 community partners -including food pantries, soup kitchens, child and day-care centers, and shelters. Silver Screen Sports Film Festival is fundraising for the Food Bank to reach a goal of $15,000. Upon checkout online of ticket-sales there is an option to make a donation large or small, starting at $5. Raffles and other ways to donate over the course of the April 14-15 weekend extravaganza are also on the site.
For 30 years, Food Bank for Westchester has led the fight against hunger in Westchester County, serving over 300 frontline programs that provide food directly to the 200,000 county residents who are hungry or food insecure. Food Bank for Westchester supplies 95 percent of all food distributed annually across the region’s food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and daycare and residential programs – delivering over 8.4 million pounds of food and 7.5 million meals to people in 2017. Food Bank for Westchester’s collaboration with major retailers and corporations, and its expertise in food procurement, storage, and distribution, turns every monetary donation into fresh food provided for the community.

Immediately following the screening all three Hanson Brothers will be participating in a thirty minute Q and A session..
Rocky

Rocky stands as the most celebrated sports movie of all time. This 1976 powerhouse was written and directed by Sylvester Stallone. This film epitomizes the American Dream and truly transcends boxing. Rocky remains one of the most inspirational characters, franchises and tales in the history of film. The film also includes standout performances from Burgess Meredith, Carl Weathers, Talia Shire and, of course, “Uncle Paulie” Burt Young.
Dave Hanson
Born in Cumberland, WI, Dave grew up on the West Side of St. Paul, MN. He was a three sport athlete, playing football, baseball and hockey at Humboldt H.S. He was recently named as one of the St. Paul High School Athletic Conference’s all-time best 100 athletes. Played Junior A Hockey for the St. Paul Vulcans and briefly at the University of Minnesota under the 1980 Olympic Gold Medal USA Hockey coach Herb Brooks. Played 10 years of professional hockey, with teams such as the NHL Detroit Red Wings & Minnesota North Stars, plus, the WHA New England Whalers, Minnesota Fighting Saints & Birmingham Bulls.
Currently lives in Pittsburgh, PA. where he manages the Island Sports Center and coaches AAA travel hockey teams for the Pittsburgh Hornets. Got his role as Jack Hanson when Jack Carlson could not appear in the movie with his two other real life brothers, Steve and Jeff. Dave was originally scheduled to play Dave “Killer” Carlson.
Steve and Jeff Carlson
Steven Edward Carlson (born August 26, 1955) is a retired American ice hockey forward and a former minor league hockey coach. He is the brother of Jack Carlson, a former NHL hockey player.
Carlson was born in Virginia, Minnesota. He appeared in the movie Slap Shot as one of the Hanson Brothers. Carlson played in the World Hockey Association with the New England Whalers, Edmonton Oilers and Minnesota Fighting Saints and in the National Hockey League for the Los Angeles Kings, scoring nine goals for the Kings. While playing for the Edmonton Oilers in the WHA, he was the roommate of Wayne Gretzky during his rookie season. Carlson and Al McLeod are the only players to ever be on a team with Gordie Howe and on a team with Wayne Gretzky.
Since retiring from hockey, Carlson runs a power skating school in Northern California. Carlson, his brother Jeff and Dave Hanson also make numerous public appearances, primarily at hockey-related events and charities, as their Hanson Brothers characters. The trio also appeared in two sequels to Slap Shot, Slap Shot 2: Breaking the Ice, 2002 and Slap Shot 3: The Junior League, 2008.
Jeff Carlson was born on July 20, 1953 in Virginia, Minnesota, USA. Carlson played in 7 games in the World Hockey Association with the Minnesota Fighting Saints.
Over a 10 year span, he also played in the United States Hockey League (USHL), the North American Hockey League (NAHL), the Southern Hockey League (SHL), the Pacific Hockey League (PHL), the American Hockey League (AHL), and the International Hockey League (IHL)
Burt Young
Burly, talented character actor who has remained consistently busy playing “rough at the edge” type characters, often on the wrong side of the law. Young was born on April 30 1940 in New York City, the son of a high school shop teacher. He is of Italian descent. Young received his dramatic arts training under legendary acting coach Lee Strasberg at the Actors Studio.
Young first gathered notice playing tough thugs in such films as The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight (1971), Across 110th Street (1972), Chinatown (1974) and The Gambler (1974). Fiery director Sam Peckinpah cast Young as the getaway driver / assassin, “Mac”, in The Killer Elite (1975), and Young came to the attention of newcomer Sylvester Stallone, who cast him as future brother-in-law ‘Paulie’ in the 1976 sleeper hit Rocky (1976). The talented Young was nominated for an Oscar, and has gone on to reprise the role in all five “Rocky” sequels to date! Peckinpah re-hired him to play renegade trucker “Pigpen” in the moderately successful Convoy (1978) (watch for “Pigpen’s” Mack truck where the writing on the door states “Paulie Hauling”!).
Young has also appeared in numerous other major productions, including Once Upon a Time in America (1984), The Pope of Greenwich Village (1984), Last Exit to Brooklyn (1989), Mickey Blue Eyes (1999) and The Adventures of Pluto Nash (2002).
